Cantine Borga Sauvignon Blanc
New Selection! 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Veneto in northeastern Italy. Somewhere between the French and New Zealand styles, with a floral aroma, citrus and deeper fruit flavors, and a lemony finish.
Cantine Borga was founded in 1940 in the Treviso area of the Veneto in northeastern Italy. The winery is 30 kilometers from Venice, located between the mountains and the sea.
Borga is currently owned and managed by four cousins, descended from the winery’s founders. Martino manages logistics, Caterina is the sales manager, Antonio is the production manager, and Riccardo manages the vineyards. They produce wines with the region’s native grapes and also some international varietals. First Vine is the first importer to sell Borga wines in the U.S.
Everyone knows Sauvignon Blanc, right? This one is somewhere between the austere French and the fruitier New Zealand styles. There’s a savory quality to it among the citrus and the rounder fruits, plus the floral aromas. The lemony aftertaste makes it a great pairing with fruit desserts, too.
You'll notice that the label has two children on it. When Tom submitted the label to the U.S. government for approval as required, he got a note back from the label examiner asking why there were children on the label of an adult beverage. All of Borga's labels have family images on them -- these are just two of the current youngest generation! Once Tom explained this to the examiner, it was approved. You could say it's for the kid in everyone!
Pale straw yellow with delicate green reflections. On the nose, well defined impact that opens to a fan of citrus fruits, citron peel, white peach, enhanced by elderflower, orange blossom and fresh hints of aromatic herbs. The dynamic sip corresponds to the citrusy perceptions of the nose, with
excellent balance and a sapid (savory) finish.
After the harvest, the freshly picked grapes are taken to the cellar and de-stemmed. Before pressing, a cryo-maceration is carried out at 5-8° for about 8 hours in order to extract the primary aromas. Selected yeasts are added to the free-run must and it is sent to fermentation, which takes place at a controlled
temperature between 16° and 18°, for about 10 days.
The wine rests in steel, where it is aged for 5/6 months, before bottling
