Cantine Borga Manzoni Bianco

About This Wine:
Cantine Borga was founded in 1940 in the Treviso area of the Veneto in northeastern Italy. The winery is 30 kilometers from Venice, located between the mountains and the sea.

Borga is currently owned and managed by four cousins, descended from the winery’s founders. Martino manages logistics, Caterina is the sales manager, Antonio is the production manager, and Riccardo manages the vineyards. They produce wines with the region’s native grapes and also some international varietals. First Vine is the first importer to sell Borga wines in the U.S.

Manzoni Bianco is a white wine grape that’s a hybrid of Riesling and Pinot Blanc (or Riesling Renano and Pinot Bianco in Italy). A combination you'll also find in Alsace and Germany, in Italy it's named for its creator, Professor Luigi Manzoni, who taught at Italy's oldest school of oenology, and who developed many hybrid grapes.  It’s dry, but the fruitiness gives it a hint of sweetness, enhanced by floral aromas. It’s a great wine for summer, but is also a nice accompaniment to cooler-weather dishes that pair well with white wines.

Wine Type: White Wine
Varietal: IGT Veneto
Appellation: Cantine Borga
Alcohol %: 12.5

Tasting Notes:
Bright straw yellow with gold reflections. On the nose, nuanced aromas of citrus fruits, yellow peach, acacia flowers, rose petals and wisteria, and a veil of minerality. The taste is satisfyingly balanced, enveloping, supported by pleasant freshness and flavor.

Production Notes:
After the harvest, the freshly picked grapes are taken to the cellar and de-stemmed. Before pressing, a cryo-maceration is carried out at 5-8° for about 8 hours in order to extract the primary aromas. Selected yeasts are added to the free-run must and it is sent to fermentation, which takes place at a controlled temperature between 16° and 18°, for about 10 days. The wine rests in steel, where it is aged for 5/6 months, before bottling.

Winemaker Notes:
The Trevisano, born and raised. Floral, aromatic, and full. For the friends for life, to get together and stay up all night.

Food Pairing:
Grilled summer foods (especially with herbs), as an aperitif,
