Bodega Traslagares is a new winery in Rueda, northwest of Madrid. Rueda is known for its white wines, particularly Verdejo, as well as Sauvignon Blanc. The Verdejo is sometimes blended with a grape called Viura, although Traslagares uses 100% Verdejo in its wine.
Many Sauvignon Blancs are too acidic, too grassy, or too citrus-y/grapefruity. Not this one. It's beautifully round and balanced, with just the right amount of acidity, citrus and tropical fruits, and a tiny hint of herbs. It's great for summer foods, or when you want it to feel like summer. Get it soon, though, or you'll have to wait for the 2011 vintage!
